SCRAPBOOKING
Once you’ve chosen the background paper for your page, and you’ve selected the photo(s) that will be featured, the next step is to take it to the next level. Look at your page as if it has layers. Your background paper is your first layer, then your photo, and then the fun begins! There are many options to choose from when it comes to decorating your page - here’s some ideas for ways to let loose!
Ribbons - Fabric ribbons are great ways to create borders or separations on your page and add some modular interest.
Buttons - Buttons can be used to give the effect that they are holding the photo in place, and you can even run string through them to make them pop!
Fabrics - Use pieces of neatly cut or torn fabric to mount your photo onto, giving your photo(s) or type a very artistic border.
Stickers - There is such an enormous variety of stickers that you can find in both arts and craft stores and specialty stores. You’re bound to find many choices that suit your theme. Stickers can be used to help secure the layers together, as well as add a decorative element to the page.
Quotations - Either famous or from your heart, a nice quotation that complements the photo can make for a nice embellishment on your page.
Objects - Depending on your theme, think of more 3-dimensional trinkets that can be placed for design purposes. For instance, a scrapbook commemorating a beach wedding can be adorned with beautiful seashells, as long as they aren’t too large and bulky.
Specialty Paper - There are many fine papers that you can use as decorative borders for your photos or text. Some even contain pressed flowers and wood grains, and others have beautiful metallic prints and textured designs.
Invitations, stationary - When memorializing a special event, be sure to include the party invitation as part of the decorations. This will serve as a wonderful memento in the future.
Lettering - Today’s adhesive and rubberstamp lettering can be everything from childish to whimsical, making it so much fun to create your text and page titles with as much creativity as the rest of the page.
Cut-outs - Bold cut-out shapes and figures are also a great way to create borders for photos or text, or even to add a classy silhouette to the page.
Brads & Eyelets – A great way to both adhere your layers together, as well as add visual interest, is to use decorative brads and eyelets. They come in all shapes and sizes, and are a simple touch when your page already has a lot going on.
Stamps - Rubber stamps provide creative ways to add text and artistic elements to your page. And with the variety of ink pad colors, there’s no end to what you could do as you use them time and time again!
